Safety Observers are stationed at specific locations (usually a turn) on the route pointing out the direction to turn for all the riders. If riders start to space from the lead, they may not always see where the group turned up ahead. They need to keep on station from the first rider and until the last rider in the group makes the turn. For the tunnel turn, one person will be stationed on each side of the entry and exit.
