Become a Member of our Community Impact Committee:
United Way of the Lowcountry depends on its donors to help make important funding decisions by volunteering to serve on the United Way's Community Impact Committee. These volunteers help determine how United Way distributes its investments to agencies and services in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
Who Can Serve on the Community Impact Committee?
The great thing about this process is that we use a scorecard that does the “heavy lifting”, so no experience is needed to participate! If you donate to United Way of the Lowcountry at any amount, you can serve on the Community Impact Committee.
What is the Time Commitment?
It only takes about two days total to help make a lasting impact. The first step is a 2-hour training session that will be conducted via ZOOM or in-person. There are three different options to attend:
Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in-person | Thursday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in-person Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in-person
Based on your availability and interest, you will have the opportunity to serve on a panel dedicated to reviewing funding applications for multiple agencies. These panels consist of volunteers who, like you, are committed to making a positive impact in their community. Reviewing each application will require approximately one to three hours, depending on your experience, as you carefully read and assess each application. Additionally, you will need to set aside one day for conducting site visits to the agencies whose applications you evaluated. During these visits, you will witness first-hand the impact of your investment dollars and ensure that donated funds are utilized efficiently. This presents a valuable opportunity to address any questions you may have, aiding you in deciding the allocation of funding to various programs and determining appropriate funding levels.

Economic Mobility Site Visit Dates: Tuesday, Nov. 12 | Wednesday, Nov. 13 | Thursday, Nov. 14
