Job Position: Reading/Stem Volunteer
Program Background:
Bluffton Dream Center’s Literacy Program is a year-round traditional reading program. The mission is to provide quality literacy instruction to children in the Brendan Lane community. We believe that through literacy, children can be empowered and encouraged to be life-long learners.
Program Description:
- We conduct two 4-month sessions with small groups of students in three 45-minute rotations, 3 days per week
- Children live in the Brendan Lane Community
- Each child is individually pre-and post-tested for their reading skill levels
- Children receive instruction in reading, vocabulary building and writing using reading level and age-appropriate reading material
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Bluffton Dream Center Director, to plan and implement a program to improve reading skills and proficiency.
- Guide children towards reaching prescribed reading objectives through small group and/or individual instruction
- Attend Literacy staff planning meetings
- Attend staff meetings
- Attend trainings
Requirements:
- Knowledge of reading strategies or implementing a prescribed reading program
Job Type: Part-time volunteer
Schedule:
- Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 3:00PM – 6:00PM.
