Who We Are

The Deep Well Project was chartered in 1973 at a time when Hilton Head's modern day development was in its infancy.   The grass-roots group was originally formed to help residents get clean drinking water in their homes by drilling deeper wells.

Fast-forward almost fifty years, and our mission has diversified greatly but the focus remains unchanged - to help neighbors in need by providing basic assistance in emergency situations.  This assistance is immediate and non-bureaucratic, and is intended to provide clients with 'a hand up, and not a hand out.'

Fall 2022 we will be launching Circles Hilton Head Island, a program designed to help people break out of poverty at the micro level, while also bringing community leaders together to try to address common issues keeping people in poverty in our market.

What We Do

The core stabilization programs of The Deep Well Project are focused on addressing basic needs of area residents experiencing some kind of emergency or crisis.   Programs include:   Rent/Mortgage Assistance, Livable Housing home repair, Utility Assistance (power, propane gas, water), a Wellness Food Pantry open 5 days a week, Critical Prescriptions/Dentures, Donated Furniture Warehouse, Children's Programs that include school uniforms and supplies, and holiday programs providing special meals and toys to low income neighbors.

The Circles Hilton Head Island program will build on our stabilization programs, working with families ready to change their lives and break out of poverty.
