Needs From: Lowcountry Volunteer Connections

Our fastest-growing program needs committed tutors and substitutes—no teaching experience or second language skills needed! We provide all training, materials, and ongoing support. The curriculum is fully prepared for you, complete with illustrations, audio, and other engaging learning tools. Your role is simply to guide a small group of motivated adult learners (6–12) through the lessons and workbooks. ESL classes take place in Bluffton, Hilton Head, and Hardeeville.

We’re gearing up for summer and actively looking for ESL Conversation Tutors and Substitutes at all three of our locations—and we’d love for you to be part of it! Our 8-week Summer ESL Conversation Session (begins June 15), welcomes non-English-speaking adult learners into a supportive, conversational environment designed for real-life, everyday English. These small classes (just 6–12 adult learners) focus on pronunciation, confidence-building, and helping our neighbors overcome the fear of expressing themselves in English. Tutoring a summer conversation class is a wonderful way to “dip your toe in the water” if you’ve ever been curious about ESL tutoring but weren’t sure where to start. We also understand that summer schedules can be unpredictable. While the session runs for 8 weeks, tutors do not have to commit to every week. We have substitute tutors available to help cover planned absences, so flexibility is built right in. Click HERE to learn more.

We need dependable “on call” volunteers to help in our food market, clothing closet, warehouse, and holiday programs. Please note that all roles involve standing, bending, and lifting 20 to 50 pounds.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
