Antioch Educational Center has offered free legal services to members of low-income families, for the last four years.

Through this program, AEC has been able to provide non-criminal services such as assistance with cases dealing with family and elder law, landlord tenant disputes, expungements, wills, Power of Attorney, Medical Do Not Resuscitate Orders, employment issues and more. AEC also offers this service as an "Office Without Walls Project," in addition to regular hours inside of AEC's facility.

With the "Office Without Walls Project," AEC goes to different locations such as senior centers, Head Start Locations, low-income housing community rooms, and more to better identify and then serve those in need of this valuable services.

This program is in partnership with the University of South Carolina Law School, Lowcountry Legal Volunteers and South Carolina Legal Services. This program has served an average of 100 people per year over the last four years.

This program needs volunteers to set up appoints and implement evaluations.

The heart of the new Circle Program consists of weekly meetings. Every meeting involves the Circles families and volunteers sharing a meal. Spending time and breaking bread together is a very unifying human experience. One of our biggest logistical needs is ensuring we have hot, healthy meals ready for approximately 75 program participants and volunteers each week. Cash donations in the amount of $1000 are also welcome to help cover the cost of homemade meals.

In January 2023, Deep Well is launching a new nationally-recognized, proven program called Circles to help our clients become financially stable, more independent, more skilled, and better able to manage their lives. 

Participants in the program are called Circle Leaders because they are the ones who lead themselves out of poverty.  They are hardworking and motivated but often feel overwhelmed by the daily struggle to make ends meet.  Circle Leaders commit to completing training, setting goals for themselves, and attending weekly Circles meetings.

The job of an office volunteer is to answer the phones and welcome walk-ins as the first client contact, take down all pertinent information for the aid request including entering the info into our ACT computer program, and follow up on validating the need as directed by staff.  

this is a nine-year-old program that takes average students, during their first year of school, and provides a daily afterschool venue where the basic areas of study are offered while also inserting public speaking, leadership, and other skills that will help to lead to a very successful lifestyle. This dynamic program also includes one weekend of travel each month as well as a full week of national and international travel during the summer months. Although suspended during the height of COVID, students enrolled in this program have already visited places such as Mexico, Canada, Seattle, Washington DC Baltimore, Atlanta, and Miami…just to name a few. Because of its many advantages, this program is limited to no more than 25 students at any given time.

This program needs teacher assistants, food preppers, reading instructors and chaperones.

 This is an innovative program that allows 50 students to receive on the job training at one of many nonprofit or governmental agencies in Jasper County This year, 2022, marks eight years that this on-the job training program has been offered to Jasper County’s high school juniors and seniors. This unique program offers many opportunities such as financial literacy training, CPR Certification, and opportunities to travel to several state universities and colleges. 3 – AEC’s Programs Each student receives all of this and more while receiving a competitive salary that is deposited directly into their bank account every two weeks.

This program needs volunteers to oversee participant selection, visit employment sites, event planning and oversee performance incentives.

This program graduated its first class in November of 2014. This year, which marks eight years, is when AEC will graduate its 20th group of Certified Nursing Assistants. Although suspended for one full year during the height of COVID, this valuable program still will have graduated an estimated 140 students by the end of May 2022. These individuals are gainfully employed helping to filled what remains a huge void in our medical/health field in our region. This six-week program is in partnership with the Bargain Box, First Pres (HHI), Coastal Carolina Hospital and NHC (Bluffton). AEC will graduate its 17th class on March 4, 2022. AEC will start two new classes in March. One evening class (that will run from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday) and one weekend class (that will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday) that are both full with a waiting list of nearly 50 students. All classes are tuition free. Students are financially responsible for supplies, uniforms, and books.

This program needs volunteers for filing, telephoning, emailing, and texting students, taking of applications, printing of medical training catalog, tracking of alumni, inventory, and oversee student acceptance/interviews.

Our office supports the needs of our program and learning centers Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm. An office volunteer would be assigned tasks according to their strengths, including organization, searching for grants, sorting donations, and other odd jobs. This volunteer would ideally help out at least once a week for a maximum time of 2 hours per session.

The heart of our program is in our Learning Centers. With 6 centers spread across the county, we are always looking for community members to strengthen our presence. The Learning Center Volunteer could do tasks from helping to prepare snack, donating the snack, cleaning and readying the center for students, helping at special events, and helping the students with homework. Seeking a few volunteers to help engage with families who are visiting The Sandbox Children's Museum and assist with a positive guest experience.  Ideally, volunteers would love being around children and helping them explore or introduce fun activities available in the museum. Each general admission session is 3 hours. We are only looking for a 3 hour commitment.

We are looking for someone who is able to come as needed to repair exhibits or help install new exhibits. The hours and need are flexible. It is helpful if you have a set of tools.

The Sandbox is looking for volunteers to assist with and/or run short programs throughout the week. These programs include our art program and STEM program as well as our free preschool program -Discover, Imagine, Grow (D.I.G.) The volunteer can assist staff or run programming and are welcome to bring ideas and creativity. Our programs are weekly or bi-monthly. and last 45 - 1 hour depending on the specific program. This is a great opportunity for retired educators.

We could all use a break from time to time! It's especially important for those who are taking care of others! They spend countless hours making meals, attending to medical needs, aiding in daily activities and improving the quality of life for other people. But what about their quality of life?

Studies show that those who are full-time caregivers for others often find themselves struggling with physical, mental and emotional stresses that they do not take care of. What if you could help?

Spending as little as three hours a week, you can help people get the well-deserved break they need! They can take this time to go for a walk, prepare a meal without interruption, read or run errands. Some caregivers may also take the time to have a date-night with their spouse, go to a social outing or attend church.

Your role as a volunteer would be to visit the family home and provide a presence for their loved one. Sometimes this means interacting with the person being cared for and sometimes it means sitting quietly and watching t.v. or reading until the caregiver returns. Mainly, you are there to ensure a safe and comforting environment, giving the caregiver confidence to step away and take a break.

Volunteers are expertly matched with the families in need. Things such as distance from volunteer's home, personality and interests are all taken into consideration when connecting a volunteer with a family.

Do you have a pet certified to visit healthcare facilities? Our guests, visitors and team would greatly benefit from pet therapy! While our residents may not always interact with our "human" visitors, they often find great joy in seeing our pet visitors. These visitors may remind residents of pets they once had and gives them a chance to experience the joy of having a pet once again.

Pets may also bring comfort to those who are at the very end of life by "snuggling" in bed or visiting at the bedside. Family members and paid staff enjoy the company too!

We care for those who live in healthcare facilities and do not receive many visits outside of the healthcare team. Volunteers provide positive engagement to attempt to decrease isolation and negative feelings. Whether it's reading aloud, having a conversation, sharing at mealtime or sitting outside, everyone benefits from a social visit!

Position Board Member
The Board will support the work of Fresh Start Healing Heart and provide mission-based leadership and
strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Fresh Start Healing Heart’s Executive
Director and Associate Director (ED, AD), the Board-ED/AD relationship is a partnership, and the
appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member
responsibilities include:
Leadership, Governance, and Oversight
1.Serving as a trusted adviser to the ED/AD as s/he develops and implements God’s plans for Fresh
Start Healing Heart.
2.Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by Fresh Start Healing Heart for evaluating its impact, and
regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and
supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
3.Approving Fresh Start Healing Heart’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions;

needed or requested.
5.Assisting the ED/AD and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members.

8.Representing Fresh Start Healing Heart to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization.

contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, Fresh Start Healing Heart expects to have
100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

Fresh Start Healing Heart’s Board Members will serve a two-year term to be eligible for re-appointment

During our session, horse leaders are responsible for the horse. HL will help grab, groom and tack up the horse, amongst other things. While riding the horse leader is in charge of making sure the animal is following the rider's queues and to help the rider direct the horse if needed. Horse Leader training is available for those volunteers with no horse experience.

During our sessions, sidewalkers are responsible for assisting the participant during any pre-riding work and during riding. Sidewalkers will assist riders as needed, depending on the riders ability to complete tasks independently or with assistance. Sidewalker training is available for volunteers with no horse experience.

Training and Resources: Upon starting the internship, the volunteer will be familiarized with our current social media sites as well as our social media procedures. The ideal candidate should not need training on how to use basic social media skills like Twitter, Word Press, Facebook, YouTube, Craigslist and Flickr.

Time commitment: 12 to 15 hours per week are expected. The volunteer can do most of the work from home, if desired, however, we do require at least four hours at house build sites, in the office and ReStore each week.

Remember when we sat on the porch swing in the evenings and talked about our day? Remember when as kids we watched fireflies on the front lawn and saw the stars come out above our heads? Remember the first time you brought your sweetheart out to the porch for some swingin’? We developed a sense of community on our porch swing. We learned to trust each other as we let go of the day’s light and relaxed into the night.

One of our longtime Habitat volunteers , Milton Lawrence, reminisced about those times and had a plan in mind when he donated his carpentry tools to our ReStore. Always thoughtful of ways to continue his giving, he decided to use his talents to design and build swings for the ReStore to sell. Beyond our highest expectations, our gifted crew of volunteer craftsmen have created The Beaufort Collection 

If you love to work with wood, or paint furniture, then perhaps you would also love to join our team of volunteers who produce The Beaufort Collection. 

Workshop hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a coffee and sweet treats break at 10 am.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to work on a Habitat construction site. No construction experience is needed as skilled supervision will be provided. The Outside Foundation is seeking kayak guides for the Fall 2021 season of "Kids in Kayaks" programming with the seventh grade students enrolled in Beaufort County Schools. Educator in the Maritime Center. Answers questions related to exhibits, uniqueness of Port Royal Sound; displays live specimens from the touch tanks and explains what the visitors are seeing; performs host duties when host is not available. For scheduled tours, will lead Docent-led groups. 

Hours: Tues – Sat; Morning shift is 10AM-1PM; Afternoon shift is 1–4PM

Children and adults schedule field trips to the Maritime Center and other local sites. Field Trip Assistants work with the PRSF Naturalist to lead specific topics (e.g., shrimp, oysters, birds, march habitat, etc.) during the field trips. Content is supplied by the Naturalist. Docent led tours of the center may also be done.

Hours variable: generally weekday mornings

Bluffton Community Soup Kitchen is in search of a motivated individual who can research, prepare and submit grants available locally and nationally that could benefit Bluffton Community Soup Kitchen.

Additionally, if this individual could train board members on this process to ensure sustainability.

Our programs at Hilton Head Island High School and May River High School are held one day on alternate weeks during the school year. Greet members, answer the telephone, give tours of our facility, filing, document shredding, represent Y at community events, stuffing envelopes, miscellaneous administrative tasks. 1-2 hours per week at the Wardle Family Y in Port Royal.

Throughout the year we need coaches and other volunteers to help with youth  and adult sports. Some of our youth sports are: gymnastics, soccer, t-ball, basketball, flag football and cheerleading. We also occasionally need volunteer coaches and assistance with adult sports (soccer, flag football, kickball, volleyball)

We have 3 slots open for a great opportunity to be a huge impact on our seniors. Our Mobile Meals program provides meals to homebound seniors. We have 3 routes open right now without drivers due to 2 of them relocating and another needing surgery. With most of our seniors, the interaction with their drivers are all they receive and you would be an important part of their daily life. Meals are provided through Beaufort Memorial Hospital and you would meet our program supervisor their to receive your client meals.

Volunteers have the ability to make their own schedule and choose how many hours they work. Our patient care volunteers meet with our patients and provide companionship for them. Our patient care volunteers read with our patients and spend time talking about life, family, and movies or TV shows. The Hospice Patient Care Services Volunteer supplements the professional staff of Hospice, providing respite for family members/caregivers and other types of support which enhances the hospice care.

Volunteers create their own schedules around our office hours. The Administrative volunteer supplements the staff of Hospice, providing office, clerical and administrative support. This volunteer will help answer phone calls, file paper work, and complete office tasks. 

Drives a specified route once a week between the hours of 11am-12:30pm delivering meals to between 5-10 people who are homebound. We have a long term route driving position available on Friday. (So every Friday at 11/11:30am) 

Our Mobile meals drivers, each drive a specified route one day a week delivering between 5-12 meals. Once in a while, and more often during the summer, a driver will be out of town or need a substitute for their route for that week. We are looking for individuals willing to step in when that happens as a substitute driver. Meals are picked up at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. 

The interviewer is responsible for interviewing each client to verify and document eligibility for food and clothing; and, determine if financial assistance can be provided based on policies.  The position requires empathy, patience, non-judgment while keeping in mind the best use of limited resources, and the policies and procedures. The volunteer would be utilizing a web-based data tracking software to input client data, called Charity Tracker.  HELP of Beaufort provides training and support on all aspects of the position: data input, procedures, policy and procedures, and local community resources.  A volunteer can choose to volunteer for one or two days a week from 09:15 am – 12:30 pm, Monday – Friday.

HELP is also planning on expanding the services to one evening a week and possibly one weekend a month if it can find volunteers that would be available consistently. 

HELP is trying to find volunteers that can do one or two weekdays. HELP is exploring the opportunity of having the Pantry open one weekend a month and one evening a week if it could find reliable, consistent volunteers to do so. Pantry volunteers are available to families as they shop for their food, the volunteer encourages the shopper to make healthy choices by pointing out recipes, and healthy tips. The volunteer makes sure the pantry, refrigerators, and freezers are clean and restocked at the end of their day. They maintain the temp logs of the freezers and refrigerators, and, rotate the food.

This is a relaxing job, it does not involve working with clients. It is a critical function; hundreds of families benefit from HELP’s free clothing store monthly. HELP receives tons of clothing that require sorting and hanging. Training is provided

A typical morning volunteering for Meals-on-Wheels would involve picking up 10-15 hot meals at the Meals-on-Wheels office at 9:30am.  The office is on Capital Drive on Hilton Head Island. You would then deliver meals to the doors of our clients who are unable to grocery shop and prepare meals on their own.  In most cases, you would be done in an hour and a half. You must have a valid drivers license and use your own vehicle.

We are very flexible with scheduling.  Some drivers will drive as little as twelve times a year, some will drive twice that, some are seasonal, and some are substitutes.  We currently need drivers for mid-Island routes.

The Outside Foundation seeks an individual with a grants writing and/or researching background who would be interested in donating approximately 4-6 hours per week researching potential grants for funding the Foundation's various programs and initiatives.

Mental Health America of Beaufort/Jasper counties is currently seeking board members. 

Island House, a program of Mental Health America of Beaufort/Jasper counties is currently seeking volunteers to assist in a variety of groups for our clients.  We serve adults that have been diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness.  A vital part of a positive recovery in mental health is socialization.  Playing games, having positive conversations and helping out in the kitchen for lunch preparation are all areas where we have a need.  

Our perfect volunteer will enjoy research required to help update records.  Data Base Entry is preferred, but we are happy to train the right person. 4 hours a week of your time would be a great value to the work of the Development Office.    

Licensed physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and registered nurses are needed to provide medical care to eligible patients.  Hours and schedule can be arranged to suit volunteer's schedule.

We currently are in need of a person to assist with our food pantry operation. 2-4 hours on Thursdays and Fridays. Duties will include: loading and unloading food from vehicle. Sorting food, bagging for clients, putting food into the pantry. Other days and times may be needed depending on food drives held.
