We have updated our needs for the teen residents of the Open Arms Children's Home

Volunteers prepare or purchase snacks for all the children (we house up to 15).  Items are delivered to the CAPA Office and will be distributed to the home.  This is very important all year long, especially with a house full of teenagers. We greatly need individually wrapped snacks and individual drinks (i.e. juice). Suggestions:

We cannot run the thrift store without our wonderful, dedicated volunteers.  As a volunteer at the thrift store, you will:

Love spending time outdoors? The Coastal Discovery Museum is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help care for the beautiful grounds of our 68-acre Honey Horn property. Our Landscape Maintenance Team meets every Wednesday from 10 –11:30 am to take on a variety of projects that keep the Museum looking its best.

Tasks may include pruning, weeding, raking, painting, general gardening, light lifting, and other small maintenance projects. No experience is necessary—just a willingness to pitch in and enjoy working outside.

Be the welcoming face of the Coastal Discovery Museum! Join our friendly team at the front desk and gift shop in the Discovery House, where you’ll greet visitors, provide information about the museum’s exhibits, programs, and grounds, and help create a positive first impression.

Front Desk Volunteers also support the gift shop by assisting guests with their purchases, labeling and restocking merchandise, and ringing up sales at the register. Volunteers work in pairs, ensuring a supportive and collaborative environment.

Our office volunteers are chiefly responsible for greeting our patrons, assisting with registration, giving mini-tours of the facility and helping with light office work.  A friendly disposition and enjoying people are the two most needed qualities.  This opportunity is at our Hilton Head Island facility. A shift is four hours long on weekdays and five hours long on weekends

If you like the outdoors and want to be part of a team of volunteers that takes pride in the maintenance and appearance of our facility please keep reading.  As summer approaches, our course and range volunteers work to maintain the condition and appearance of our 10 acre facility on Hilton Head Island.  Our facility is generally considered to be the best publicly available practice facility in the area. Duties may satisfy one or more of the following needs, mowing greens, tees, fairways and rough, maintaining bunkers, picking up range balls, use a string trimmer, mulching and weeding. You will be working under the supervision of an experienced golf course superintendent.  We take great pride in our facility and you will too!

Our Assistant coaches help deliver our Life Skills Experience under the guidance of a lead coach.  The Life Skills Experience is a character education program that helps young people to learn to live by our Nine Core Values: Confidence, Courtesy, Honesty, Integrity, Judgment, Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility and Sportsmanship. In addition, great emphasis is placed on developing a healthy lifestyle and of course learning to play the game of a lifetime, golf.  So if you think it is important to guide young people to becoming productive, contributing members of society and you are willing to accomplish this as part of team of caring adults, this is the right volunteer opportunity for you.  While golf experience is certainly helpful, it is not required. We have Assistant Coach needs in Bluffton, Ridgeland, Hardeeville, Beaufort and Hilton Head Island. Assist instructors in classes such as ceramics, literacy, music, science, cooking, etc.  If you have a special talent, we would love for you to share it with PEP members as little as once a week for 2 hours. The Program Coordinator works with the Executive Director and a team of volunteers on organizing all aspects of classes, presentations and events for The Heritage Library. This opportunity requires strong organization, communication and computer skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time. It involves scheduling, coordinating roles with volunteers, event organization and timey communications. The time needed for this position is approximately 10 - 12 hours per month and work can be completed at the Library and from home. Make this a fun opportunity while working with volunteers providing, history and genealogy classes, historic site tours and special events like Authors & Afternoon Tea and History and Happy Hour. 

Join a great team! The Heritage Library is looking for people to serve as tour characters and docents at 2 historical properties. The library owns Ft. Mitchel, a Civil War era earthworks battery located on Skull Creek, and Zion Chapel of Ease Cemetery on the corner of William Hilton Parkway and Matthews Drive, a Colonial era cemetery that includes grave markers for four American Revolutionary War Patriots and the Baynard Mausoleum. The Library conducts site tours on a seasonal basis and training and costumes are provided.

This position requires teamwork and good people and presentation skills. Tours are presented by groups of 2-4 so this is great opportunity for working with others and building friendships. It is also a lesson in local history that you then can share with visitors to the site and the Island. Schedules are very flexible. You will also get to work with a great team of volunteers that work with the Library on a regular basis.

Join 50 other vocalists of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra Chorus directed by Dustin Ousley for the opportunity to perform inspiring and extraordinary concerts with Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, led by Grammy nominated music director Maestro John Morris Russell. Performances occur throughout each concert season (October through April) with weekly Tuesday night rehearsals at SoundWaves beginning two months prior to each concert series performance. A highlight of the season is the wildly popular annual Holiday Pops with performances both in Bluffton and on Hilton Head Island. Most all concerts are held at First Presbyterian Church.

All voice-types welcome. This is an auditioned choir, and previous choral experience is required.

Perfect for a retired adult looking for an easy-going and rewarding opportunity.  Occasionally, PEP will need up to a 14 passenger van driver to fill in for one of our current drivers.  Come make a difference! Applicant would serve as a van driver to adults with a broad spectrum of intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities. This is done through kindness, compassion, and understanding. This position is a split-shift position (7am-9am and then 2:00pm-4:00pm) and will ONLY BE NEEDED when one of our current 5 drivers is not available.

Position requirements and qualifications:

* Applicant must pass a drug screening test.

* No CDL required - all transportation is fourteen (14) passenger vans.

* Applicant must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.

* Applicant must have a valid driver's license and clear driving record.

Help PEP with duties to include filing and other administrative duties.  Anytime time between 9-2pm is most helpful, so whatever works with your schedule! 

Truck volunteers are needed to pick up food from local grocery stores and other outlets, and deliver it to food pantries, soup kitchens, and family programs in Beaufort and Bluffton.

Volunteers can drive or be a crew member; we work in teams of two to three volunteers. These are smaller (18-foot) trucks; a commercial driver's license (CDL) is not required. Volunteers can work as little as one day (four hours) per month, or more frequently if their time and interests permit. Volunteers can also serve as substitutes, to serve when there's an opening in the schedule.

Truck volunteers should be able to lift 40 pounds.

For each of our 4 concerts, we print about 50 posters that we need dropped at various locations in Beaufort SC (we have a spreadsheet) and to record for each concert the locations a poster is installed.

We are asking for a 1-2 hours per week commitment during the school year. Morning or early afternoon hours are offered based on the student's availability and your schedule. Each schools’ hours of operation vary. Tutors receive training prior to and during the tutoring program.

Become a Member of our Community Impact Committee:
United Way of the Lowcountry depends on its donors to help make important funding decisions by volunteering to serve on the United Way's Community Impact Committee. These volunteers help determine how United Way distributes its investments to agencies and services in Beaufort and Jasper counties.

Who Can Serve on the Community Impact Committee?
The great thing about this process is that we use a scorecard that does the “heavy lifting”, so no experience is needed to participate! If you donate to United Way of the Lowcountry at any amount, you can serve on the Community Impact Committee.

What is the Time Commitment?
It only takes about two days total to help make a lasting impact. The first step is a 2-hour training session that will be conducted via ZOOM or in-person. There are three different options to attend:

Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in-person | Thursday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in-person Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in-person

Based on your availability and interest, you will have the opportunity to serve on a panel dedicated to reviewing funding applications for multiple agencies. These panels consist of volunteers who, like you, are committed to making a positive impact in their community. Reviewing each application will require approximately one to three hours, depending on your experience, as you carefully read and assess each application. Additionally, you will need to set aside one day for conducting site visits to the agencies whose applications you evaluated. During these visits, you will witness first-hand the impact of your investment dollars and ensure that donated funds are utilized efficiently. This presents a valuable opportunity to address any questions you may have, aiding you in deciding the allocation of funding to various programs and determining appropriate funding levels.

The Trolley is a valuable and much appreciated service on our Hilton Head Hospital campus.  It is operated by a dedicated team of volunteers on weekdays from 9:00-4:00 PM, transporting patients and visitors between the various parking lots and buildings on hospital grounds.  All who need or want a ride are welcome to use this free service.   A team of trolley drivers drive throughout the year and in all kinds of weather and typically transport 80 to100 people per day.

Special Olympics Coaches are Needed at Chaplin Park and Beaufort County Public Schools

Public Tennis Inc. is looking for supportive and enthusiastic volunteers to serve as tennis "coaches" during Physical Education (PE) classes at the  public Elementary Schools and at after school programs.  Through the Schools Program, we introduce children to tennis at an early age and make tennis accessible to children who might not otherwise have opportunity to learn to play.  Our objective is to transfer knowledge of tennis to PE teachers and program coordinators so they can make tennis a regular part of their curriculum.  Learning is accelerated by the use of small racquets, low compression balls, and teaching techniques which make tennis fun!  Programs are flexible -- volunteer when and where you can!

We're looking for assistant coaches to help with our minor league football team. No experience is necessary but we do value prior coaching experience on any level. We do offer professional development for candidates looking to get into coaching for the first time. We're looking for help during practices and games. Please contact if you have any questions. 

Our area is rural and covers a wide geographic area. We prepare individual care packages for the elderly and disabled in Jasper and Hampton Counties. We deliver the packages to the local senior centers and they receive a bag along with their meals. When necessary, we deliver the care packages to individuals at their homes. Meals on Wheels, Bluffton-Hilton Head is excited to announce their clients with pets are the recipients of an Opportunity Grant to fund the Furry Friends Pet Program. This program provides needed support to clients who struggle to provide adequate dog or cat food for their furry companions. Volunteers are needed to help plan this program for 2024 plus donations of cat and dog food can be dropped off at 75 Capital Drive on Hilton Head Island. This holiday season let's fight loneliness by helping our elderly neighbors feed their furry companions. For more information call 843-802-0919.

We are looking for one or two individuals with trucks who could pick up furniture donations for our Furnish A Future program and deliver to our storage units. Furniture is typically donated from Bluffton and Hilton Head and our storage units are in Bluffton and Okatie.

Furnish a Future is a Hopeful Horizons' program, led by a dedicated volunteer group, to create safe and joyful spaces for women who are starting a new life after surviving domestic violence. In many cases, women and their children need to rebuild from the ground up and furnishing their new home with love will provide them with a positive start on their journey. Furnish a Future collects donated items specific for each family.

We are looking for volunteers interested in getting involved with the South Carolina chapter of the Alzheimer's Association by becoming a community educator, our greatest need for programs! This position entails the following:

Currently, we are working to expand our reach and establish relationships in Mount Pleasant and do not have any volunteers in this area. We also need volunteers for Orangeburg County, as this is an area of high disease prevalence. Nonetheless, we welcome volunteers from any location!

Hopeful Horizons is looking for volunteers who can help with putting mailings together, organizing donations and other office projects. This would be in the Beaufort or Bluffton office. We're a fun group and would love to have your help!

Facilitators needed for ongoing mental health support and education groups. Facilitators must have personal experience with mental health struggles or with a loved one. Facilitators will be trained through NAMI national programs. Facilitators provide in-person or zoom groups in a supportive and structured format. Internet access is required Facilitators will have flexibility with their group schedules.

Bluffton Self Help is actively looking for volunteer tutors and substitute tutors for our English as a Second Language Courses (ESOL). You may be thinking, "I don't know another language"! But don't worry, you don't have to know one. You may also be thinking, "I'm not an educator!" Again, no education background is required. We will provide you with all of the training and resources you need. The classes are meant to be spoken in English so our students begin to learn our language. We use illustrations and other learning tools. The curriculum is spelled out for you as we have a Curriculum Specialist on staff. All you have to do is guide small groups (6 - 10) of adult learners through workbooks and lessons. Our biggest need is for tutors who can be available in the evening (6-8pm), but there are some opportunities during the daytime (9 - 11am). We offer classes in 4 different locations in Hilton Head, Bluffton and Hardeeville. We also have a strong need for tutors willing to serve in Hardeeville as this is a fast growing community with more affordable housing. We will host information sessions in the Fall and training sessions in November. The Spring classes will begin on January 9th, 2023 and are two hour classes taking place two times per week for 16 weeks. We understand if you come on board, that you may have travel plans and time away, life happens. We rely on substitutes to cover you when you can't lead your class. We also have classes that kick off in June 2023 if you are not available in the Spring. FRIENDS of Caroline Hospice patient volunteers are vital to our organization. Without volunteers, it would be impossible for us to provide all of the services that enhance the quality of life for our patients and their families. All volunteers are required to undergo a background check, driving record check, TB test and present a copy of a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Volunteers receive training and work in conjunction with other members of our team, or the Coordinated Care Team, and under the supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator. The most important role of the volunteer is to be a loving, supportive friend. As a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, the patient volunteer assists patients and their families by:

Each October, November, April and May The Outside Foundation hosts 7th graders, and their teachers, for a school day of dockside learning station and kayaking at a local marina. We seek volunteer retired science teachers, Low Country Master Naturalists, birders, and those retired form environmental-directed professions to help with our dockside stations. Our dockside stations include: dock fowling, Envrioscape water shed model, water testing, birding and binocular use, and touch tank/salt marsh foo web.

Each fall and spring The Outside Foundation hosts groups of 7th graders, with their teachers, for a day of learning about the salt marsh in the salt marsh. Students participate in dockside activities and a 2 hour guided kayak tour. We are seeking experienced kayak guides to help with teaching basic safety and paddle strokes. 

We have a need for volunteers to teach guitar to our elementary-aged members (ages 6 - 11). We have guitars available for our members to use.

The Money Matters program was created by Boys & Girls clubs of America, in partnership with Charles Schwab Foundation, to provide behavior-changing financial education to help teens get on the path toward budgeting, saving, planning for college and financial freedom. The Money Matters program is comprised of a core curriculum divided among five units. Each unit addresses a key Money Matters theme, and the activities are designed to put that theme into a real world context for members. these five topics are the ones most relevant to BGCA teen members, reaching them at a time when their behavior as earners, spenders and savers can be most influenced.

Antioch Educational Center has offered free legal services to members of low-income families, for the last four years.

Through this program, AEC has been able to provide non-criminal services such as assistance with cases dealing with family and elder law, landlord tenant disputes, expungements, wills, Power of Attorney, Medical Do Not Resuscitate Orders, employment issues and more. AEC also offers this service as an "Office Without Walls Project," in addition to regular hours inside of AEC's facility.

With the "Office Without Walls Project," AEC goes to different locations such as senior centers, Head Start Locations, low-income housing community rooms, and more to better identify and then serve those in need of this valuable services.

This program is in partnership with the University of South Carolina Law School, Lowcountry Legal Volunteers and South Carolina Legal Services. This program has served an average of 100 people per year over the last four years.

This program needs volunteers to set up appoints and implement evaluations.

The heart of the new Circle Program consists of weekly meetings. Every meeting involves the Circles families and volunteers sharing a meal. Spending time and breaking bread together is a very unifying human experience. One of our biggest logistical needs is ensuring we have hot, healthy meals ready for approximately 75 program participants and volunteers each week. Cash donations in the amount of $1000 are also welcome to help cover the cost of homemade meals.

In January 2023, Deep Well is launching a new nationally-recognized, proven program called Circles to help our clients become financially stable, more independent, more skilled, and better able to manage their lives. 

Participants in the program are called Circle Leaders because they are the ones who lead themselves out of poverty.  They are hardworking and motivated but often feel overwhelmed by the daily struggle to make ends meet.  Circle Leaders commit to completing training, setting goals for themselves, and attending weekly Circles meetings.

The job of an office volunteer is to answer the phones and welcome walk-ins as the first client contact, take down all pertinent information for the aid request including entering the info into our ACT computer program, and follow up on validating the need as directed by staff.  

this is a nine-year-old program that takes average students, during their first year of school, and provides a daily afterschool venue where the basic areas of study are offered while also inserting public speaking, leadership, and other skills that will help to lead to a very successful lifestyle. This dynamic program also includes one weekend of travel each month as well as a full week of national and international travel during the summer months. Although suspended during the height of COVID, students enrolled in this program have already visited places such as Mexico, Canada, Seattle, Washington DC Baltimore, Atlanta, and Miami…just to name a few. Because of its many advantages, this program is limited to no more than 25 students at any given time.

This program needs teacher assistants, food preppers, reading instructors and chaperones.

 This is an innovative program that allows 50 students to receive on the job training at one of many nonprofit or governmental agencies in Jasper County This year, 2022, marks eight years that this on-the job training program has been offered to Jasper County’s high school juniors and seniors. This unique program offers many opportunities such as financial literacy training, CPR Certification, and opportunities to travel to several state universities and colleges. 3 – AEC’s Programs Each student receives all of this and more while receiving a competitive salary that is deposited directly into their bank account every two weeks.

This program needs volunteers to oversee participant selection, visit employment sites, event planning and oversee performance incentives.

This program graduated its first class in November of 2014. This year, which marks eight years, is when AEC will graduate its 20th group of Certified Nursing Assistants. Although suspended for one full year during the height of COVID, this valuable program still will have graduated an estimated 140 students by the end of May 2022. These individuals are gainfully employed helping to filled what remains a huge void in our medical/health field in our region. This six-week program is in partnership with the Bargain Box, First Pres (HHI), Coastal Carolina Hospital and NHC (Bluffton). AEC will graduate its 17th class on March 4, 2022. AEC will start two new classes in March. One evening class (that will run from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday) and one weekend class (that will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday) that are both full with a waiting list of nearly 50 students. All classes are tuition free. Students are financially responsible for supplies, uniforms, and books.

This program needs volunteers for filing, telephoning, emailing, and texting students, taking of applications, printing of medical training catalog, tracking of alumni, inventory, and oversee student acceptance/interviews.

Our office supports the needs of our program and learning centers Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm. An office volunteer would be assigned tasks according to their strengths, including organization, searching for grants, sorting donations, and other odd jobs. This volunteer would ideally help out at least once a week for a maximum time of 2 hours per session.

The heart of our program is in our Learning Centers. With 6 centers spread across the county, we are always looking for community members to strengthen our presence. These programs include our art program and STEM program as well as our free preschool program -Discover, Imagine, Grow (D.I.G.) The volunteer can assist staff or run programming and are welcome to bring ideas and creativity. Our programs are weekly or bi-monthly. and last 45 - 1 hour depending on the specific program. This is a great opportunity for retired educators.

We could all use a break from time to time! It's especially important for those who are taking care of others! They spend countless hours making meals, attending to medical needs, aiding in daily activities and improving the quality of life for other people. But what about their quality of life?

Studies show that those who are full-time caregivers for others often find themselves struggling with physical, mental and emotional stresses that they do not take care of. What if you could help?

Spending as little as three hours a week, you can help people get the well-deserved break they need! They can take this time to go for a walk, prepare a meal without interruption, read or run errands. Some caregivers may also take the time to have a date-night with their spouse, go to a social outing or attend church.

Your role as a volunteer would be to visit the family home and provide a presence for their loved one. Sometimes this means interacting with the person being cared for and sometimes it means sitting quietly and watching t.v. or reading until the caregiver returns. Mainly, you are there to ensure a safe and comforting environment, giving the caregiver confidence to step away and take a break.

Volunteers are expertly matched with the families in need. Things such as distance from volunteer's home, personality and interests are all taken into consideration when connecting a volunteer with a family.

Do you have a pet certified to visit healthcare facilities? Our guests, visitors and team would greatly benefit from pet therapy! While our residents may not always interact with our "human" visitors, they often find great joy in seeing our pet visitors. These visitors may remind residents of pets they once had and gives them a chance to experience the joy of having a pet once again.

Pets may also bring comfort to those who are at the very end of life by "snuggling" in bed or visiting at the bedside. Family members and paid staff enjoy the company too!

We care for those who live in healthcare facilities and do not receive many visits outside of the healthcare team. Volunteers provide positive engagement to attempt to decrease isolation and negative feelings. Whether it's reading aloud, having a conversation, sharing at mealtime or sitting outside, everyone benefits from a social visit!

Our Mission is to compassionately walk beside survivors of human trafficking, providing safe
housing, immediate needs, and restorative services for spiritual, emotional, physical and
financial healing.
Position Board Member
The Board will support the work of Fresh Start Healing Heart and provide mission-based leadership and
strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Fresh Start Healing Heart’s Executive
Director and Associate Director (ED, AD), the Board-ED/AD relationship is a partnership, and the
appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member
responsibilities include:
Leadership, Governance, and Oversight
1.Serving as a trusted adviser to the ED/AD as s/he develops and implements God’s plans for Fresh
Start Healing Heart.
2.Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by Fresh Start Healing Heart for evaluating its impact, and
regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and
supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
3.Approving Fresh Start Healing Heart’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions;
being informed of, and meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
4.Contributing to an a performance evaluation of the ED/AD and any other vital team members as
needed or requested.
5.Assisting the ED/AD and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members.
6.Partnering with the ED/AD and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out.
7.Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments.
8.Representing Fresh Start Healing Heart to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization.
9.Ensuring Fresh Start Healing Heart's commitment to a diverse board and staff when possible that

contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, Fresh Start Healing Heart expects to have
100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

During our session, horse leaders are responsible for the horse. HL will help grab, groom and tack up the horse, amongst other things. While riding the horse leader is in charge of making sure the animal is following the rider's queues and to help the rider direct the horse if needed. Horse Leader training is available for those volunteers with no horse experience.

During our sessions, sidewalkers are responsible for assisting the participant during any pre-riding work and during riding. Sidewalkers will assist riders as needed, depending on the riders ability to complete tasks independently or with assistance. Training and Resources: Upon starting the internship, the volunteer will be familiarized with our current social media sites as well as our social media procedures. The ideal candidate should not need training on how to use basic social media skills like Twitter, Word Press, Facebook, YouTube, Craigslist and Flickr.

Time commitment: 12 to 15 hours per week are expected. The volunteer can do most of the work from home, if desired, however, we do require at least four hours at house build sites, in the office and ReStore each week.

The position also involves engaging in meaningful discussion, thus increasing the dedication and mission of building affordable housing. This is a great internship for hands-on experience in marketing a non-profit on the web and increasing awareness, donations and volunteers through a free communications medium.

Remember when we sat on the porch swing in the evenings and talked about our day? Remember when as kids we watched fireflies on the front lawn and saw the stars come out above our heads? Remember the first time you brought your sweetheart out to the porch for some swingin’? We developed a sense of community on our porch swing. We learned to trust each other as we let go of the day’s light and relaxed into the night.

One of our longtime Habitat volunteers , Milton Lawrence, reminisced about those times and had a plan in mind when he donated his carpentry tools to our ReStore. Always thoughtful of ways to continue his giving, he decided to use his talents to design and build swings for the ReStore to sell. Beyond our highest expectations, our gifted crew of volunteer craftsmen have created The Beaufort Collection

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to work on a Habitat construction site. No construction experience is needed as skilled supervision will be provided.
