Needs From: Lowcountry Volunteer Connections

Due to the growing needs of the community, we’ve made considerable investments on Hilton Head and in Jasper County by expanding our footprint and our programs offered at those Self Help Education Centers. For our new locations we are looking for versatile, heart-driven volunteers to welcome neighbors and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. You’ll support programs, connect neighbors to resources, and help create a space where people feel seen, respected, and supported from the moment they walk in. Flexible weekday shifts (3–4 hours). More than volunteering—it’s being part of something that matters. Must have computer skills.

Our fastest-growing program needs committed tutors and substitutes—no teaching experience or second language skills needed! We provide all training, materials, and ongoing support. The curriculum is fully prepared for you, complete with illustrations, audio, and other engaging learning tools. Your role is simply to guide a small group of motivated adult learners (6–12) through the lessons and workbooks. ESL classes take place in Bluffton, Hilton Head, and Hardeeville.

For Fall & Spring (16-week sessions) classes run Monday–Thursday, 9–11 am or 6–8 pm, meeting twice a week. If that’s too much of a volunteer commitment, you can "team teach" with another tutor, each tutor serving one day per week. We also have substitute tutors available to help cover planned absences, so flexibility is built right in.

We need dependable “on call” volunteers to help in our food market, clothing closet, warehouse, and holiday programs. Please note that all roles involve standing, bending, and lifting 20 to 50 pounds.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Our new volunteers come on as "on-call" and when a regular shift opens we notify you so you can accept or decline. If you are interested in learning more about "on call" opportunities, please submit your contact information HERE.
