Who We Are
Hospice Care of the Lowcountry is a non-profit community hospice caring for our community at the end of life. Our philosophy of care is more about living than about dying. Our goal is to provide compassionate care and support so that our patients and their families might find the fullness and joy they deserve, even as they face the anxieties of the end of life.
Hospice Care of the Lowcountry is an independent community-based non-profit organization serving Beaufort and Jasper Counties since 1982.
What We Do
Hospice is a health care service for people with life-limiting illnesses. The team is made up of Nurses, Nursing Assistance, Social Workers, Spiritual and Bereavement, our Medical Director and Volunteers. We accept patients without regard to race, color, national origin, handicap, age, gender, religion, ability or inability to pay. The goal of hospice care is to control pain and other symptoms, rather than to cure the person's illness. Hospice provides support for the person who is ill as well as his or her loved ones.
Volunteers are a vital part of the HCL team. Working alongside the professional staff our carefully selected and well-trained volunteers provide many different types of support for the hospice program. They are trained to assist those coping with terminal illness, grief and loss. Our team of Volunteers include direct patient care volunteers, office/reception volunteers, pet peace of mind, we honor volunteers, and a pet therapy program through our Hos-Pets program.
