Who We Are
Hilton Head Island Safe Harbour is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization that supports island residents that wish to stay in their homes as they age.
What We Do
HHI Safe Harbour works with aging residents and disabled persons by providing transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other errands. Our members can function well in their homes but need assistance in getting out about the island to help meet their basic needs. Our volunteer team of drivers use their own vehicles and provide a friendly and caring environment when working with our members. All island residents that would like to become members of Safe Harbour complete a pre-screening form and are interviewed by the staff before they are accepted as members. All members are able to, with the aid of a cane or walker, if necessary, get in and out of a vehicle on their own.
Volunteers have the ability to choose when they volunteer. Using their password, they can go into the weekly Safe Harbour schedule and choose the the assignment that matches their available time to help. Member assignments last usually no longer than a two hour period. All volunteers complete an application, are interviewed, and agree to a SLED background check. In addition, to having a current drivers license, proof of insurance is required
