Who We Are

Annually, thousands of individuals are touched through our outreach and educational programs, services and advocacy efforts.  CAPA provides a continuum of care for individuals throughout the many stages of their lives from childhood through adolescence to parenthood and grandparenthood.

We maintain a home for abused and neglected children and offer child abuse awareness and character education programs for elementary and middle school children, teen pregnancy prevention programs, and a variety of parenting classes and support resources. CAPA offers mandated reporter training for professionals who are required by law to report child abuse and neglect and a Cribs for Kids program.

CAPA provides services across all socioeconomic levels and most of its services and programs are free or offered at minimal costs to participants.  This integrated system of support ensures that children, parents and community members have the skills and knowledge to address and ultimately prevent child abuse and neglect.

What We Do

CAPA was founded in 1978 and has evolved from a local non-profit grassroots community organization to a powerful and influential watchdog organization that advocates and provides a voice for the children in our community.  United Way of the Lowcountry, Inc. has been a supporter of CAPA for more than 25 years.  In 2012, CAPA was reaccredited by the Council on Accreditation.  This accreditation, based on national standards, recognizes the operational excellence, quality of services provided and the outcomes achieved by CAPA's varied programs and services in the community.
