Who We Are

The Lowcountry Gullah Foundation raises funds to assist Hilton Head, Daufuski and Bluffton Gullah families who are struggling to pay their delinquent Beaufort County taxes. In addition to financial assistance, providing solutions is necessary to prevent yearly returns to the tax list. Through offering information, resources and support families could establish a solid financial base from a series of programs to this targeted community. The program would include workshops with general and individualized guidance on economic land opportunities, as well as understanding and untangling heirs property issues.

What We Do

The Lowcountry Gullah Foundation promotes, educates, and more importantly documents the richly significant Gullah culture and its contributions to the US, in addition to raising funds to preserve the culture’s greatest asset, historic generational land for local Hilton Head Island, Daufuski Island and Bluffton Gullah families. The level of poverty in Beaufort County is significant and a portion of it is directly tied to historic Gullah land loss. Families with financial hardships would benefit from specifically designed resources that would address and possibly resolve the situation, improving their financial situation.
