Who We Are

The Children’s Centers’ mission is to provide affordable, high-quality early education and childcare services for working families to ensure every child is ready to achieve success upon entering kindergarten. The Children’s Center was founded in 1967 by Reverend Isaac Wilborn in response to a need for early education amongst children from working class families (primarily children of color) on Hilton Head Island. Wilborn gathered a group of concerned citizens and on May 26, 1967 the Child and Youth Development Center was born.

What We Do

The Children’s Center is the only childcare facility in the Hilton Head that offers a sliding-fee scale structure. Children receive breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack to feed their bodies, but more importantly, they receive educational building blocks built on a foundation of love from qualified teachers who see each child’s individual potential. The Children’s Center, Inc. is a unique not-for-profit organization that provides working families affordable and accessible early childhood education and childcare services. The Children’s Centers’ multicultural, bilingual early childhood education program is provided five days a week, year-round, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Our goal is to provide a learning environment that enhances the multi-dimensional development of each child. Our programs focus on each child’s development in social-emotional growth, gross and fine motor skills, language and literacy, mathematics and cognitive advancement. Parents choosing early education options, like The Children’s Center, for their young children, are providing a foundation for learning that will give their child the necessary tools for success in formal education.
