Who We Are

OUR FOUNDERS:  In September 2011, a team of social entrepreneurs identified a growing need to restore vision to South Carolina residents who were uninsured and could not afford cataract surgery. World-class physicians, Dr. John Boatwright, Dr. Paul Herring, and Dr. Kerry Solomon, inspired by a community problem, founded Operation Sight. Together they inspired and enlisted other volunteer healthcare providers, including surgeons, surgical staff, ophthalmologists, optometrists, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers as well as administrators to provide volunteer time and talent to this effort. To date, Operation Sight has over 80 active volunteers. Together they helped provide more than 435 surgeries in the past eight years.

What We Do

Operation Sight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring vision and improving the lives of uninsured South Carolina residents suffering from cataracts or urgent, sight threatening retinal disorders by providing free surgical care. Currently, Operation Sight has more than 80 active volunteers (24 physicians) who provide direct patient care at no cost. Operation Sight's Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Nurses, and Anesthesiologists charge no fees; their time and skills are 100% donated.
